Anyone who knows me will know that I absolutely adore a bright lipstick. I’ve had hundreds of them over the years – starting with that neon pink Barry M number that you buy for parties when you’re 13 – and to this day have about twenty super-bright shades in my makeup box. (Admittedly, that Barry M pink is still there. Don’t judge).
I’ve usually stuck to bright pinks like MAC’s Candy Yum Yum, and neon red shades like Estee Lauder’s Coral, but recently I’ve fallen in love with sunshiney, juicy tangerine and orange shades. They’re definitely a bit summery for the current dismal British climate, but who cares? A striking orange lip against a black knit still looks beautiful.
Here are my top picks for an orange kiss…
MAC Amplified Lipstick in Morange (£14)
A super bright, highly pigmented orange shade that looks super juicy. However, the amplified creme lipstick does tend to wear off quite quickly, so layer it with a lip liner underneath to avoid smudging and a disappearing act.
Sleek Pout Paint in Milkshake (£5)
Apply with a lip brush because a tiny drop from this tube goes an insanely long way – I bought this about six months ago and barely made a dent in it. It’s a gorgeous peachy orange, and provides amazing coverage; it dries to a lipstick-esque texture rather than a gloss.
MUA Matte Lipstick in Peachy Keen (£1)
It’s a pound. That in itself makes it a favourite of mine, but also the m atte texture, which doesn’t smear or smudge, cements it in my top three favourite orange shades. Can be quite drying, which you’d expect from a matte (cheap) lipstick, so perhaps a slick of gloss (or even of the Pout Paint above for a real pop of colour) would keep your pout fresh.
Here I’m wearing MAC’s Morange!
